Alexander township in Gauteng has recorded a positive case of Covid-19 said the spokesperson for the Gauteng health MEC Kwara Kekana

On Monday afternoon, Kwana  confirmed that five people are under quarantine after being in “close contact with a confirmed case”.

Kekana said the person in Alexandra was instructed to remain under self-isolation but defied the order.

This comes just 24 hours after a coronavirus case was confirmed in the Khayelitsha township of the Western Cape

Kekana said all known close contacts of the confirmed case have already been identified, tested and are in quarantine pending results. He

“We are urging communities to take heed of the lockdown measures and act responsibly, so that together we can contain and prevent further spread of Covid-19.”

The country is on day 5 of the 21-day lockdown, which is meant to curb the spread of the virus that has now infected more than  1,326 people including three deaths.
