South Africa’s Telkom is set to retrench 3000 employees.

Employee representatives told ETV that they were only notified yesterday during a strategic meeting. The most affected divisions will be the copper division as Telkom is moving away to LTE.

The process will start on 22 January. Telkom said this is only the first phase and there will be other retrenchment phases after May.

The CWU said they will oppose the process.
