It is with utter shock to learn that the Zimbabwe Republic Police has banned the water demonstrations which was set to be held by the Community Water Alliance.

The Community Water Alliance had applied to the ZRP to hold a demonstration over the worsening water crisis in the country.

The ZRP acknowledged receipt of the applicant but denied it on grounds of the current security situation in the district of Harare. The ZRP didn’t ellaborate on what it meant precisely.

It is evident that the government is still using the Public Order and Security Act to trump constitutionally given freedoms like the right to demonstrate.

The MDC had also scheduled a march on the 24th of October but it was banned because it allegedly didn’t meet the POSA requirements.
