The Mnangagwa led government is once again faced with a dilemma as crisis is looming in the educational sector, with teachers announcing their strike days before the commencement of national examinations.

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) said that teachers will withdraw their labour on the 14 October 2019 as they can not continue to work whilst received ‘peanuts’ as salaries.

The Union said “We dont have to risk the integrity of national examinations by deploying hungry and angry teachers as invigilators. Withdrawing labour on 14 October is in the best interest of our education sector”.

However, this development comes after a discussion was held between ARTUZ President and Advocate Fadzayi Mahere who has been advocating for the emancipation of teachers and rural school education.
