Controversies:

During his tenure as Minister of Mines he was accused of being corrupt since he acquired this wealth through shady businesses.
Mpofu was also reported to be the owner of a local newspaper called the Zimbabwean in which he refused to pay his rentals which later led to his eviction from the building which he rented.

He has also been linked with a local bank called ZABG in which he is rumoured to have a controlling stake in the financial institution.

He was the owner of Allied Bank but due to liquidity challenges and failure tomeet minimum capital the bank was forced to hand over its license to the RBZ
2018 March he was ordered to compansate $30 0000 villagers whose proporties and homesteads had been destroyed during Grace Mugabe scandals in Mazowe
