The University of Zimbabwe students led by Zinasu have refused to open their doors to accommodate mourners of former president the late Robert Mugabe. The university authorities had issued an instruction that all students should vacate the premises on Wednesday the 11th of September and pave way for mourners.

The Zinasu student body released a statement defying the order.

Below is the full statement

TO: THE DEAN OF STUDENTS
FROM :ZINASU UZ CHAPTER
DATE: 10 SEPTEMBER 2019

RE: REQUEST FOR THE REPEAL OF THE PRESS RELEASE STIPULATING THAT THE VACATION OF RESIDENT STUDENTS FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE ROOMS ON THE 12TH OD SEPTEMBER.
I write this letter kindly requesting the termination of the earlier made press release that spoke on resident students checking out from their rooms on the 12th of September 2019 up until Tuesday 17th of the same month.
The mentioned press release violates the welfare of the students in residence as this development was never highlighted on the academic calendar for this semester and this will cause major inconveniences to students through travelling expenses and other foreseeable and unforeseeable circumstances, given the rash and unclear rationality of the statement

We sincerely hope that your office will work around the clock to rectify this issue to the favour of the protection of welfare of the students, the major stakeholders of the institution
